Displaying User Variable Values on Process Flow Diagram (PFD) in Aspen HYSYS
Project Description
In Aspen HYSYS, user variables are widely used toper form customized calculations that are not available as built-in properties. While these variables are useful for analysis, it is equally important to visualize their values directly on the Process Flow Diagram (PFD) for better monitoring and interpretation. However, by default, user variables are not displayed on the PFD, requiring additional configuration.
This project focuses on enabling the display of user variable values directly on the PFD using property tables. By integrating user variables into the visual interface, engineers can easily track important calculated parameters without navigating through multiple tabs or menus. This improves workflow efficiency and enhances real-timedecision-making during simulation.
The approach involves adding a property table to the PFD and customizing it to include the required user variables. This method allows flexibility in selecting which variables to display and ensures that critical data isalways visible alongside process streams and equipment. The result is a more interactive and informative simulation environment.

Optimization Strategy
The main strategy is to use the built-in “Show Table” feature available for streams and unit operations in Aspen HYSYS. By right-clicking on the desired object and enabling the property table, users can display key process variables directly on the PFD. This provides a centralized visual representation of important data.
Another important strategy is customizing the property table to include user variables. By accessing the table settings and using the “Add Variable” option, users can browse and select specific user-defined variables. This ensures that only relevant information is displayed, keeping the PFD clean while still being informative.
Activating Property Table on PFD
The property table is enabled by right-clicking on a stream or unit and selecting the “Show Table” option.
Adding User Variables to Table
User variables can be added through the “Add Variable” option in the property table settings.
Customizing Display for Clarity
The table can be adjusted to show only necessary variables, improving readability and usability.
