Stream Splitting with Equal Temperature and Pressure in Aspen HYSYS
Project Description
In process simulation, splitting a material stream into multiple outlet streams is a common operation used in separation, distribution, and control systems. However, maintaining identical temperature and pressure in the outlet streams as the inlet stream can be challenging if not configured properly. By default, variations may occur due to calculation methods or missing constraints.
This project focuses on implementing a method in Aspen HYSYS to split a stream while ensuring that all outlet streams have the same temperature and pressure as the inlet. This is achieved using a component splitter along with proper parameter settings and additional control elements to enforce consistency across streams.
The approach includes configuring the splitter to equalize pressures and temperatures, attaching an energy stream, and using a Set operation to transfer temperature values. Thisensures accurate and stable results, making the simulation more realistic and suitable for industrial applications where uniform conditions are required.

Optimization Strategy
The primary strategy is to use a component splitter with specific parameter settings enabled. By activating options such as “Calculate Equal Temperatures” and “Equalize All Stream Pressures,” the system ensures that outlet streams maintain the same thermodynamic conditions as the inlet. This forms the foundation of achieving uniformity in the split streams.
Another important strategy is the use of a Set operation to enforce temperature consistency. While the splitter settings handle most of the work, the Set unit ensures that temperature values are directly transferred from the inlet stream to one of the outlet streams, which helps maintain stability and accuracy in the simulation results.
Component Splitter Configuration
The inlet stream is connected to a component splitter, and outlet streams are defined with desired split ratios.
Pressure and Temperature Equalization
Options to equalize pressure and temperature are enabled in the splitter parameters.
Set Operation for Temperature Control
A Set unit is used to directly link inlet and outlet temperatures for precise control.
